We talk: With Arrowhead Studios

We talk is the place were we will be putting all of the interviews we made from now.
Today we interviewed Patrik Lasota, Arrowhead Studio's PR and community manager.
If you have played Magicka then you must know that Arrowhead Studio was the Dev. of the awesome and  on of the most sold Steam game. So because we love Magicka and we love you guys we contacted them and we talked about what Magicka and Arrowhead Fans should expext in the furure, not only for Magicka but also for new games. So I just want to thank Patrik and Arrowhead for being so kind and letting us make them akward questions we really apreciate it.

How was for you guys to create Magicka?
A lot of work went into Magicka, counting the released version only,
the development took a little over two years. If you count the
prototype Magicka that we competed in SGA2008 with, then the
development time is around 3 years. It was very fun though, we learned
a lot making our fist game and hopefully we will be able to make a
sequel in the future.

What inspired you to make Magicka?
There was a seminar about the SGA 2008 competition and both Johan, our
CEO, and our lead artist Emil attended.During the seminar Emil turned
to Johan and asked if he wanted to make a game, because he "had this
idea about wizards". They recruited a couple of students from our
university and started making Magicka.

Did you expected to sell 200000 copies in the first 3 weeks?
Expect, no, hoped, yes. It was amazing to see how well the game
actually sold and the fact that we held the number one best seller
spot on Steam for more then a week was amazing. Especially considering
all the bugs the game had at launch.

•Are you working in something new?
As a game studio that lives on good ideas and good design there is
always a bunch of ideas. There is nothing ready to reveal though.

•Would you work in the future will you consoles like Wii, PS3 or Xbox
360, or you prefer something more crazy like Onlive?
Working with consoles is something we would love to do, unfortunately
there is a lot of red tape involved and it can be a hassle to work
with. Services like Onlive are really interesting and maybe we will
look closer on that possibility in the future.

•Would You like to have a partnership with a big publisher like Ubisoft?
The only thing big publishers have that interests us are rights to
intellectual property that we really would like to work with. We are
all gamers here at Arrowhead and being offered the opportunity to work
with an IP like Moonstone or Dungeon Keeper would be very fun.

•What's your favorite game?
That's like asking what my favorite food is, no matter what I answer
there are other things I like just as much or more. Currently I am
playing mostly World of Tanks and Shogun 2: Total War.*

*This are Patrik's favorite games not Arrowhead studios.

Once again we want to thank Patrik and Arrowhead for letting us have an interview with them.

  1. Magicka is mad awesome. A friend of mine gave me Witcher2 but I haven't touched it since Magicka PVP came out.

Can't wait to see what the dev team puts out next.
